Alchemy is a very interesting philosophical tradition steeped in spirituality and mysticism. believed to be magicians, Alchemists where the first chemists of the their day, later giving birth to the field of study in latter years. Some stories of Alchemy consists of turning lead into gold, or the creating of The Elixir of Life that keeps a person from ever aging. But in more conventional notions, they created medicines and study life and Equivalent Exchange
I was watching The Full Metal Alchemist anime the other day, which if you haven’t seen it you definitely should. and this line from the opening credits caught my attention:
“Human kind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy’s first law of Equivalent Exchange.”
This brings up an interesting concept. the idea that nothing can be gained with out first giving something of equal value in return. We can apply this in every day life, not just Chemistry or Alchemy, its like saying you get out what you put in. I think that this could be a rule for all of life.
What are Your thoughts?
